Acceleration (a = Δv ÷ t)

Acceleration is how quickly velocity changes: a = change in velocity ÷ time. Units m/s².

How to do it — step by step

  1. change in velocity = final velocity − starting velocity.
  2. a = change in velocity ÷ time.

Worked example

A car speeds up from 0 to 24 m/s in 6 s.
a = (24 − 0) ÷ 6 = 4 m/s²
