Speed (v = s ÷ t)

Speed = distance ÷ time. Distance in metres, time in seconds gives speed in m/s.

How to do it — step by step

  1. speed = distance ÷ time.
  2. v = s ÷ t. (Rearrange: distance = speed × time.)

Worked example

A runner covers 100 m in 20 s.
v = 100 ÷ 20 = 5 m/s
