Pressure (p = F ÷ A)

Pressure = force ÷ area, in pascals (Pa = N/m²). The same force over a smaller area makes a bigger pressure.

How to do it — step by step

  1. pressure = force ÷ area.
  2. p = F ÷ A. (Rearrange: force = pressure × area.)

Worked example

A 200 N force acts on 0.5 m².
p = 200 ÷ 0.5 = 400 Pa
