The energy stored when you lift something: E = m g h (mass × gravitational field strength × height). Joules.

How to do it — step by step

  1. E = m g h.
  2. mass in kg, g ≈ 9.8 N/kg, height in m.

Worked example

Lift a 2 kg book 1.5 m, g = 9.8 N/kg.
E = 2 × 9.8 × 1.5 = 29.4 J
