Wave speed (v = f λ)

Wave speed = frequency × wavelength: v = f λ. Speed in m/s, frequency in hertz (Hz), wavelength in metres.

How to do it — step by step

  1. v = f λ.
  2. Rearrange: f = v ÷ λ, or λ = v ÷ f.

Worked example

A wave with f = 50 Hz and λ = 4 m.
v = 50 × 4 = 200 m/s
